Kitchens We Love: Luke and Annie Pierce
Luke and Annie Pierce’s shared passions and culinary prowess are most evident in their home kitchen, where exposed shelves and concrete countertops set off an array of kitchen gadgets, tools and unique ingredients. With years of restaurant and bar experience between them, Luke and Annie’s kitchen is expertly organized, well stocked and inhabited as often as they get the chance.
After moving into the house last April, the Pierces painted every khaki wall, leaving their mark on the early 1900s-era house. Luke replaced a tall cabinet with custom shelves and a pot rack. “He does all the cooking,” says Annie. “I just make the drinks.”
The couple married last September and honeymooned in Japan. From there, the breadth of their kitchen gadgetry only grew.
“When we got back from the honeymoon we were on a huge Japanese kick,” says Annie. “We got our rice cooker from the wedding and I make rice at least two or three times a week. We’ll do little rice bowls or grill chicken and use veggies and miso.”
An assortment of coffee-brewing instruments spans the back counter, tools Luke uses each morning to brew coffee. Annie’s vast liquor collection sits adjacent the kitchen, bottles reflecting personal tastes, work projects and the couple’s travels.
Together, Luke and Annie have allowed the character of their kitchen to shine.
“We actually have work space, which is nice. In our old apartment we couldn’t both be in the kitchen at the same time, so since we do the eating and drinking and entertaining, it’s nice to be able to actually share the space and be in it together.”
Part laboratory and part sanctuary, the Pierce’s kitchen is a creative space all their own.
